The Naked Gun 22: The Smell of Fear (1991)
Director: David Zucker
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In this deliriously silly sequel to the marvellously tasteless juvenilia of Lieutenant Frank Drebin's first chaotic outing on the big screen, Drebin (Nielsen) is out to foil a conspiracy designed to prevent wheelchair-bound conservationist Dr Meinheimer (Griffiths) from influencing George Bush's energy policy. The fact that the plotters' leader Hapsburg (Goulet) is dating Drebin's old flame Jane (Presley) only complicates matters further. Thus is the scene set for romantic agony, moral dilemma, profound ecological controversy, and the most tuneless caterwauling heard in a movie since the last instalment. A corny cornucopia of cop-saga clichés, Zucker's film is a sublimely free-wheeling parody of every ridiculous matter-of-life-and-death scene ever to appear in a crime thriller. A minor masterpiece of infantile idiocy.Author: GA
