Poitier's first - and best - film, No Way Out is also one of the most honest films dealing with racial conflict. Widmark plays the bigoted petty criminal who holds Poitier's doctor responsible for the death of his friend, and nearly incites a race riot in his search for revenge. While undoubtedly it fudges some of the issues, Mankiewicz's literate script makes this one of the few movies from the past dealing with racial issues that are still viewable today.Author: PH
