Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Huppert's gaze of amused but benevolent appraisal is also the director's in this adaptation of a Mishima novel concerning the relationship between a well-to-do woman in her 40s and a callow young hustler. Soap addicts looking to have their nerves jangled by a sex 'n' rows opus will be disappointed. What interests Jacquot is the complex of power play and genuine affection between the two characters, which he documents in a cool, thoroughly adult manner. Huppert is formidable.
