Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Although a vast improvement on the derisory Vault of Horror, this seventh Amicus horror omnibus, using stories by R Chetwynd-Hayes, suffers from much the same faults as its immediate predecessors. As usual there's one really good episode (a remarkable sub-Pinter piece on witchcraft with a stunning performance from Angela Pleasence), but the others are at best average. And the linking story, with Cushing manning an antique shop, is feeble even by Vault of Horror standards. The script's concentration on suspense and visual effects, with a minimum of dialogue, should be a virtue; but the Amicus budgets are so low (with name casts a priority) that the technique frequently results in sequences of cramping boredom.
