Harold Ramis might have had fun with seven magic wishes and a Faustian pact, but this update of a 1967 update of a well-worn legend fails to ignite. The hero, Elliot Richards (Fraser), tempted by the Devil for the sake of a Big Mac and Coke, wastes his wishes, while his so-called adversary, the Princess of Darkness in a red dress, catsuit, traffic-cop and nurse outfits (Hurley, barkingly mediocre), exploits and indulges him in an ad hoc way, thus undermining the rules of their game. Essentially, a computer geek learns a wholesome lesson about not dreaming his life away and being rewarded with, er, the girl of his dreams, albeit a transmogrified version. That said, the visual gags generally come off and the leads have some canny lines.Author: SS
