Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

As Willie & Phil demonstrated conclusively, Mazursky's exposure to European art cinema (Jules et Jim) must have come at an impressionable age. Almost all the affectedly ampersanded characters of his rollcall filmography (Bob & Carol & Ted & the rest) are adrift in the emotional flux of infinitely permutated relationships, and there's only so much mileage to be gained from glossing the '50s Hollywood sex comedy with 'sophisticatedly' ambivalent light satire. Here the never-ending game of musical beds is played by divorce lawyer Segal, ex-wife Anspach, and assorted lovers Mason and Kristofferson, with Venice the cultural postcard backdrop.
