Castle on the Hudson (1940)
Director: Anatole Litvak
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Garfield's again made to suffer, this time as an arrogant petty hood who takes the heat when his girlfriend kills a corrupt lawyer. As ever, he brings bravado and pathos in equal measure to a tailor-made role. Pat O'Brien's the righteous prison warder determined to bring him to heel. As usual in Warner Bros pics of the time, there are plenty of swipes at the iniquities of the system. A remake of 20,000 Years in Sing-Sing.Author: GM
