This sentimental tale of an adventurous puppy accidentally drafted into the front line - protecting Prof Goldblum's home from Siamese ninja spies as he perfects his dog-allergy antidote - is astonishingly witless. Originally envisaged as a cartoon, the film emerges as something else, a vaguely reptilian combination of live action and CGI animation. You have to pinch yourself to remember that even quirky actors like Goldblum and Perkins are, after all, human. As for their 'son', the studio claims Alexander Pollock is real flesh and blood, but I don't believe it.Author: TCh
