Champion (1949)
Director: Mark Robson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Given a punchy performance from Douglas and skilful direction, this tale of a boxer's ruthless drive to the top is flashily effective. But it's mostly wind and piss, with the vicious hero of Ring Lardner's story now conventionally excused (he stomps on people because he had an underprivileged childhood and wants to take care of ma). The Set-Up, made the same year, is infinitely superior.Author: TM
