Guardian of the Frontier (2002)
Director: Maja Weiss
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A Slovenian feature that draws a contrast between good girls and bad. Three female students go on a canoe trip down the river Kulpa, a natural frontier between Slovenia and Croatia. Taking on the quality of a fairy tale, this creepy, atmospheric thriller paints a picture of life outside the big cities as full of male menace. As a commentary on the state of sexual politics in post-war Slovenia, it is perhaps one of the very few films to suggest lesbianism as a politically radical force.Author: FW
