Pagliacci (1936)
Director: Karl Grune
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Rudimentary adaptation of Leoncavallo's one-act opera, which gives brawny Austrian tenor Tauber (who'd emigrated to England in 1933) the chance to belt out the big number (in English) 'On with the Motley'. Duna's the unfaithful spouse, Knight (who lost much of his sight during WWII but successfully continued his screen career right up until Lars von Trier's startling 1984 debut Element of Crime) her soldier lover. It switches to experimental Chemicolour for a couple of scenes.Author: TJ
