Payroll (1961)
Director: Sidney Hayers
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Treading Tyneside territory a decade before Get Carter, this crime thriller features a gang of unlikely Geordies as the target of the vengeance-seeking widow of a security guard killed in a factory payroll heist. Nerve-ends snap a little too patly on cue as the noose tightens, but the fresh use of provincial backdrops (part of the British cinema's belatedly sudden discovery of 'the North') and the oddly assorted casting exercise their own fascination.Author: PT
