Director Benjamin makes amiable but bland comedies, and here's another. The pitch is ebony (Goldberg) meets ivory (Danson) as bio-chemical parents of, well, a light-brown daughter (Long) when they belatedly discover she was the fruit of a sperm bank mix-up. Whoopi's a successful, politicised, single working-mother; Danson's a lovable, reconstructable cowpoke. After the first half sets up intriguing racial/political/biological conundrums, the second simply lets them go hang. Energetically directed with a fair smattering of funny lines.Author: WH
