Mallboy (2000)
Director: Vincent Giarrusso
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Initially, this first feature comes over as stilted sub-Loachian study in youthful estrangement - it traces a couple of days in the life of 14-year-old Melbourne petty thief, Sean (McNay), at home from 'the centre' when his father gets out of jail. But it slowly grows in interest as writer/director Giarrusso shows his sympathy and understanding for the likeable young man's plight. If some of the comedy and drama feels a little staged, McNay's quietly affecting, natural performance eventually wins the day.Author: WH
