Saturday (2001)
Director: Juan Villegas
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
For the first half-hour or so, with its Pinter-like conversational absurdities, non sequiturs and antagonisms, this wry study of three couples whose lives become intertwined one otherwise ordinary Saturday looks set to be a real winner. It's fresh, funny, fast and full of surprises. Then, suddenly, it all begins to fall a bit flat. Too many dialogues lead nowhere, the twists and switches in relationships are faintly predictable, and there's rather too much repetition. Its wit and pace pick up again by the end, confirming its opening promise. Gastón Pauls, as himself, is particularly to be commended for sending himself up as a womanising celebrity. Yet more proof that something's stirring in Argentina, filmwise.Author: GA
