Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

In 2000 the Wayans brothers had rich pickings for their first dumbed-down horror parody - they fed off the warm corpses of Scream and its clones. These days there's less flesh around, so Scary Movie 3 takes some more unlikely victims and has 8 Mile and The Matrix joining The Ring, The Others and Signs in what looks more like a sixth form revue of last year's blockbusters. Perky heroine Cindy Campbell (Faris) is now a newsgirl investigating a mystery apparently linking a killer videotape with alien crop circles. Taking on a sheaf of clumsily constructed subplots, Cindy attempts to save the world for President Harris (Nielsen) while falling in love with a white boy rapper and being hailed as 'The One' by The Oracle (Queen Latifah). Initial laughs of recognition soon give way to yawns, despite the odd one liner. Director David (Airplane!) Zucker's slapstick may have the satiric delicacy of a chainsaw lobotomy, but it hasn't harmed the franchise.
