Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

The extraordinary story of Ernest Shackleton's doomed expedition to the Antarctic in 1914 really doesn't need the grandiose verbosity of Kevin Spacey's voice-over narration, nor the bland, schools programming-style dramatic reconstruction it gets here. Imagine what James Cameron, say, could do with this material, but a straight documentary would also be fascinating. This mediocre halfway house benefits more from the archive photography and film shot at the time (familiar from the film South) than from the IMAX format. [Note: Butler also directed a non-IMAX version of the Shackleton story which was released simultaneously. Shackleton's Legendary Antartic Adventure runs 93 minutes and is narrated by Liam Neeson. - Ed.] TCh.
