She's Having a Baby (1988)
Director: John Hughes
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Taking his erstwhile teen lovers into young adulthood, marriage and parenthood, John Hughes fashions a curiously disaffected portrait of the artist as a frustrated chauvinist. Bacon - an aspiring writer who lands a job in advertising, just as Hughes did - narrates the film. We are privy to his daydreams about freedom and his resentment towards his bride (McGovern in a terrible role), and then we watch his change of heart in a thoroughly unconvincing last reel. This is bitter-sweet compartmentalised, with the saccharine spooned on at the end. Even then it lacks flavour.Author: TCh
