Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

A dour and thoroughly unconvincing film of Morris West's novel about a Russian bishop who survives twenty years in Siberia to become Pope Zorba, and who undertakes to spend the Church's wealth to stave off nuclear war. At which point you might expect the Vatican to have him quietly bumped off, but there's no such realism here, just weighty performances, rich settings, and David Janssen as a US journalist with domestic troubles.
