Sixteen Candles (1984)
Director: John Hughes
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In which writer/director Hughes reinvented the teen movie by introducing real emotions and anxieties behind the usual run of dating decisions, wild parties and adolescent pranks. Ringwald's star-making turn plunges her into the trauma of turning 16, when her crush on the class hunk fails to work out and she finds unlikely solace in the shape of Hall's Ted the Geek. Sly humour and an appreciative ear for the demotic improv of teenage chat completes an attractive package.Author: TCh
