Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Lemmon blusters for all he's worth, but to no effect, in this tale of a disenchanted California bail-bondsman called upon to post an immense surety for his former mistress, a sultry windblown gypsy (Bujold), who finds herself in the slammer awaiting sentence for the attempted murder of her oafish husband. Although patently striving for something tougher, Korty's direction achieves little more than a succession of bravura romantic flourishes. Whatever statement was intended about a couple of losers given a last chance to opt out of the system (for some sort of hazy nomadic existence) is lost in the half-hearted jokiness.
