Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Coppola's rethink of his Vietnam War epic is intriguing, but no significant improvement. Some of the added footage is fine, some redundant. If the extra Kilgore material adds nothing, meeting the Playboy bunnies again further upriver is a touch tedious. And the lengthiest newly inserted sequence is pretty catastrophic: a visit to a French colonial plantation is dramatically ruined by incomprehensible accents, Carmine Coppola's syrupy music and a soppy sexual interlude for Sheen with simpering Aurore Clément. More Brando is fairly effective, but all the best stuff you'll have seen before. Whatever, it's wonderful to see this hallucinatory folly-cum-near masterpiece again on the big screen.
