Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

Swedish director Troell, having won an international reputation with his sweeping historical saga The Emigrants and The New Land, headed off to America himself, where his career soon ground to a halt after this picturesque but rather vacant tale from the Old West. Hackman's the gruff rancher who's initially antagonistic when he sends off for a mail-order bride and gets Ullmann back, but her fighting spirit is soon to win him over. The performances strike sparks occasionally, but Jordan (Alien) Cronenweth's rural cinematography steals all the attention.
