Ziegfeld Girl (1941)
Director: Robert Z Leonard
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Classic MGM musical with Busby Berkeley pulling all stops out to retell the story of legendary showman Ziegfeld by way of the mixed fortunes of three of his girls, with Turner as the one who hits the skids, Lamarr as the one who settles for marriage, and Garland as the one who makes the grade. An oddly intriguing mix of production numbers and melodrama, with Dailey outstanding as a sadistic prizefighter who gives Turner a hard time, and Garland at the height of her powers. Favourite numbers include: 'You Stepped Out of a Dream' and 'I'm Always Chasing Rainbows'.Author: MA
