This technically innovative blending of actors with, for much of the movie, animated settings is a surreal, allegorical fantasy about a young prince who, with the help of a lighthouse-keeper, witnesses a strange world where progress, clocks, modern machinery and sexual equality have been banned. Alain Robbe-Grillet had a hand in the screenplay, but it's still something of a dog's dinner, initially intriguing but delivering a tale far too unfocused to be anything more than a visual curiosity.Author: GA
