Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

As a feature writer for 'Monique' magazine, Kate (Janssen) is stuck with a piece about what makes relationships last - a subject she fears she knows next to nothing about. Mulling over failed trysts with the likes of Eric (Emmerich), married with children, and actor Joey (Hopkins), Kate knows in her heart that she and Adam (Favreau) were the real thing. This rom-com gets a long way on the smart pairing of the sharp-featured Janssen and the big-boned Favreau. When they're together, the movie has the natural playfulness and relaxed quality associated with good relationships. You can tell that they enjoy each other. Favreau in particular has a comic delivery which makes his material seem wittier than it has any right to be. But when you get down to it, it's still pretty thin and over-familiar: the guy freaked out by his lover's sexual experience; the video rental fights (Nosferastu or Ninja Babes?); the tit for tat revenge dating. From Woody Allen to Nora Ephron, we've been through this cycle before.
