Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

A completely foolish venture, which only looks promising when put beside the even worse adaptation of Portrait of the Artist Strick went on to make a decade later. Naturally the naughty bits of James Joyce's great and revolutionary novel caused quite a rumpus in their screen transposition, but while certain sections work well as naturalistic comedy, Strick's embarrassingly literal interpretation of the more fantastical passages sink the film completely. Barbara Jefford's rapturous reading of Molly Bloom's final monologue deserves commendation, however.
