Movie review

From Time Out New York

It might seem fortuitous that Beautiful Boxer is being released at a time when biopics (The Aviator, Ray), boxing movies (Million Dollar Baby) and Muay Thai martial arts (Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior) are all enjoying popularity. But this true-life story about Thailand's transsexual boxing champion Parinya Charoenphol doesn't need any help to sell itself. First-time actor Suwan powerfully captures the complexity of a lonely, conflicted man who fights to maintain his dignity in a macho sport that wants to turn him into a clown.
