 James Herbert might share a moniker with Britain’s best-selling scare scribe but his pursuit of choice appears to be far from fearsome if this feature-length example is anything to by. Presumably racking up some retreat cash from his REM promos, Herbert goes low-key and languid for this sensual slice of sun-soaked sex and solace among the beautiful people of a run-down Italianate villa. Narrative and dialogue are not especially busy here. What Herbert enjoys is the music of bodies in love-making motion and he captures that with a formal reinvention that reminds you, pleasurably, of the fact that you’re being seduced.
