From Time Out New York

Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine's heartfelt documentary about the innovative troupe Ballets Russes not only dazzles with breathtaking moves but also reveals an insular world behind the scenes. Using the ensemble's 2002 reunion as a starting point, the film catches up with the troupe's key dancers—Russian émigrés and several Americans rechristened with Russian-sounding surnames—to chart its epic history from its founding in Paris to its dissolution in the '60s. Present-day interviews are interspersed with archival footage, juxtaposing the timeworn faces of the dancers with pictures of those same people in the prime of their youth.
