Nina's Heavenly Delights (2006)
Director: Pratibha Parmar
Movie review
From Time Out New York
Seriously sweet and none too subtle, Pratibha Parmar’s comedy of romantic errors in Glasgow’s Indian community is comfort food with a dash of spice. Lesbian Nina (Conn) returns to Scotland from London for her beloved father’s funeral to find the family restaurant on the block. In short order, she delays the sale so she can enter the resto in a fiercely competitive local curry cook-off, falls for her brother’s girlfriend (Fraser) and generally shakes up friends and neighbors—without actually upsetting anyone beyond what a strong cuppa will fix. If WE were a local Scottish channel serving the multiethnic LGBT community, movies like this would be its nan and haggis.
