Bee Movie (2007)
Director: Steve Hickner, Simon J. Smith
Movie review
From Time Out Chicago
Merriam-Webster’s defines B movie as “a cheaply produced motion picture,” and while cheap isn’t the operative word for a relentlessly marketed, computer-animated movie teeming with celebrity voices, Bee Movie does show a certain stinginess of imagination—both in its glib, pop-culture-referencing story (a Seinfeld-voiced bee sues mankind for stealing honey) and its relative visual drabness (the hive sequences suggest a high-tech Flintstones episode). The message: Be a vegan? An extended tribute to The Graduate and a bit involving Ray Liotta’s self-styled brand of honey provide the only laughs.Author: Ben Kenigsberg
