Synopsis

This sequel to the hit comedy Bruce Almighty sees the spotlight shift from newsreader Bruce to his arch enemy Evan Baxter. Now a Congressman, Baxter and his family relocate to Virginia, where Evan’s life is turned upside down by a visit from God. The big man tells him to build an ark in preparation for a great flood, a request that’s easier said than done.

Movie review

From Time Out Chicago

Monolithically dumb. Can Steve Carell have jumped the shark so soon? No, but rarely has a movie seemed so illustrative of miscasting: Carell's squirmy nervousness—perfect for a congressman who's picked by God (Freeman) for unwilling environmental campaigning—is amplified in this neo–Noah story to a panicky shriek. The biblical messaging, benign and nonapocalyptic, will appeal to viewers too young or too selectively aware of Old Testament wrath. But even nonbelievers will draw the line at multiple dung jokes and a postclimax dance routine set to C+C Music Factory.
