Walking to Werner (2006)
Director: Linas Phillips
Movie review
From Time Out Chicago
Novice filmmaker Phillips took it upon himself to walk from Seattle to Los Angeles in homage to his hero, director Werner Herzog. In 1974, Herzog hiked from Munich to Paris to visit a sick friend. But unlike Herzog, Phillips took his video camera and made his epic schlep the subject of a documentary film. Phillips’s mom, dad, best buddy and pet schnauzer excepted, the indulgent outcome is guaranteed to bug your mind. Herzog, it should be noted, had the good sense to be away in Thailand making Rescue Dawn at the time, though he did contribute a few worried voice mails—e.g., “If you want to walk, do it for some other reason.”Author: Cliff Doerksen
