Synopsis

CGI and live action combine, as do the harmonies of three rodents.

Movie review

From Time Out Chicago

So was anyone really psyched to see Ross Bagdasarian’s singing rodents resurrected as a contemporary boy band? This curdled live action/computer animation combo seems phoned-in in every respect—it’s one thing to strand Dave (Lee) and the boys in a paint-by-numbers plot about the value of family, but quite another when the actors and cartoons have trouble making eye contact. As a debauched record producer, Cross doesn’t get a single funny line. Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard) did Alvin’s voice, but with enough helium, they could have hired Nick Nolte.
