U2 3D (2007)
Director: Catherine Owens, Mark Pellington
Movie review
From Time Out Chicago
Frankly, the appeal of 3-D has been a mystery to us; a spear getting hurled at the camera to punctuate a bad horror film seems like a waste of technology. But this chronicle of a U2 concert in Buenos Aires makes a pretty cool case for 3-D. As the band powers through 14 numbers (mostly hits like Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Pride (In the Name of Love),” culled from its full playlist for the Vertigo tour), the cameras hover and glide, making for an appropriately vertiginous experience. The band, famous for its live shows, is in top form, and U2 3D makes you wish you’d been there, even as the camera takes you closer than you’d ever get in person.Author: Hank Sartin
