Katyn (2007)
Director: Andrzej Wajda
Movie review
From Time Out Chicago
In 1940, Soviet troops murdered at least 12,000 Polish intellectuals and military officers to pave the way for a new Polish leadership class loyal to the Soviet Union. After the war, they tried to blame the massacre on the Nazis. Wajda circles around that event, leading us up to it and then, withholding the horror itself, looks at the lasting effects on the families of the victims. Though there are too many storylines, several almost thrown away, it’s a grim portrayal of man’s inhumanity to man.
