Bearing scant relation to the 1980 Jamie Lee Curtis slasher of the same name but a huge resemblance to today’s generic horror blandfests, Prom Night features a bunch of kids running around a hotel screaming. Donna (the vapid Snow), having survived a stalker’s violent assault on her family, still has bad dreams about the dude. Now escaped from the loony bin, he won’t be bringing her a corsage. Brian De Palma’s Carrie remains the ultimate prom terrorizer; conversely, this film is stunningly uninterested in high school’s divisions of popularity. Plus, you know De Palma wouldn’t have a killer ask a maid for extra towels and not actually use them.Author: Joshua Rothkopf
