Despite the presence of the Humane Society on set, this Disney romp humiliates its canine cast by imbuing it with the worst kind of anthropomorphism. Why can’t those crazy, corazón-obsessed Mexicans and clueless, rich Americans just get along? Chloe (Barrymore) is a pampered 90210 pooch who disdains the amorous advances of Papi (Lopez), the gardener’s mutt. But then she’s whisked away to Mexico, where she discovers her roots and realizes she’s just been passing as a little white dog. While CGI works its ventriloquism on the doggy mandibles, it neglects the human contingent, which is left to fend for itself amid the manipulated menagerie.
