Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg (2008)
Director: Aviva Kempner
Movie review
From Time Out Chicago
Though she’s all but forgotten, Gertrude Berg wrote, produced and starred in The Goldbergs, an immensely popular radio show and television series about Jewish family life. Kempner and her interview subjects explain Berg’s remarkable ability to make Jewish life appeal to a mass audience but glosses over the battles Berg must have faced as a powerful woman in the entertainment industry. This feels a bit thin on deeper analysis, but as a historical reclamation project, it’s pretty engaging.Author: Hank Sartin
