A Thousand Words (2011)
Director: Brian Robbins
Synopsis
Eddie Murphy plays Jack McCall, a fast-talking, smooth-talking literary agent, in this Hollywood comedy from the pen of Steve Koren, the writer of ‘Bruce Almighty’. The trailer suggests the usual loud and brash performance from Murphy, although the twist here is that McCall is forced to keep his mouth shut after he bends the truth when negotiating a book deal with a spiritual guru (Cliff Curtis). A Bodhi tree springs up unannounced on McCall’s property and with each insincere word spoken by McCall, a new leaf falls off it – the threat being that he might die if the tree loses all its leaves. A strange concept, you might think, but the trailer promises lots of silent sweating and gurning from Murphy as he tries to learn the true value of communication.
