Playing the Field (2012)
Director: Gabriele Muccino
Synopsis
Fans of the middlebrow Hollywood romcom rejoice! Gerard Butler is back in the sack. In ‘Playing the Field’, Butler plays a washed-up athlete who agrees to take a job as the coach of his son’s football team – but once those SUV-driving suburban Soccer Moms get a look at Gerry on the pitch, he’s beating them off with a stick. Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones are among the overqualified actresses vying for Butler’s manly affections, while Dennis Quaid rounds out the cast as, we’re going to assume, a cuckolded hubby or indignant father. The result could be a cross between ’70s classics ‘The Bad News Bears’ and ‘Shampoo’. But it probably won’t be.
