Dawson does digital

Rosario Dawson is to star in online sci-fi series 'The Gemini Division' which she hopes will have feature film potential

Rosario Dawson is to immerse herself in the digital universe, producing and starring in an online sci-fi series that she hopes will have TV, game and feature film potential.

'The Gemini Division' will start life as 100 three-minute online episodes that star Dawson as a New York cop investigating the murder of her husband. As the case progresses, she uncovers a global conspiracy involving the creation of simulated life forms that have assimilated with the unsuspecting public.

The show will combine live action with motion capture animation, and if successful, all manner of spin-offs are planned, including a big-budget feature film.

Prolific TV producer Seth Rogow is also working on the project, and told Variety that a project’s online potential is immeasurable. ‘I can’t think about doing anything that would start in the traditional TV model’ he told Variety. ‘It’s so interesting to start an idea on the internet; it’s an opportunity to interact with your audience in a different way, to build a fan base. It’s a new creative form and a new business model.’
