Planned Steve McQueen biopic

The rights to a book by Steve McQueen's ex-wife have been snapped up

Producer Kevin Kasha (of 'Spymate', 'In Search of Santa' and 'Air Bud: Strikes Back' fame) has managed to secure the rights to a book written by Neile McQueen Toffel, the first wife of iconic action hero and car-loving eco scourge, Steve McQueen. The book, given the somewhat icky title of 'My Husband, My Friend', centres on her marriage to McQueen in the years 1956 to 1972. The couple first clamped eyes on each other when she was starring in a Broadway production of 'The Pajama Party', at a time when Toffel was actually more famous than McQueen.

They later settled down in Hollywood, had some babies, then divorced after 16 years, when McQueen succumbed to the lusty charms of Ali MacGraw, his co-star in Peckinpah’s 'The Getaway'. It seems that more than 25 years after his death, McQueen’s star is still shining brightly: his 1963 Ferrari sold at auction recently for $2.3 million which was nearly double the expected price.

No actors are yet attached to the movie, but a snap poll in the Time Out film section revealed that our ideal choices to take the lead would be British impressionist Phil Cornwell, American TV actor Ricky Schroeder or Matt Damon (as a back-up).
