- How refreshhing to see a movie that entertains and informs on so many levels. I'ts a first rate thriller that also challenges and addresses many important current issues. This terrible scourge of drugs worldwide, the corruption and abuse of power. Realistically and emotionally portrayed, certainly one of Russell Crowe's best performances and a riveting final scene between him and Denzill Washington. Directed by a consummate director ,Ridley Scot lays all the issues on the line - race, greed and the abuse of power in a fast hard hitting economical and subtle way. - Nice insights, cheers! There’s another film coming out soon in the UK which looks quite similar to this, called Cocaine Cowboys. It’s about Miami, whereas American Gangster was about NY, and it’s a documentary on the drugs trade/industry and the real people behind it. I think they have a website at www.cocainecowboys.co.uk It looks awesome. Anyway, cheers for the sneak preview. AG looks good, only real criticism I've heard so far is that it's a bit too slow burning. Can't wait to check out Crowe's performance in this role though! Posted on Nov 16 2007 11:43
