Anthony Minghella: 1954-2008

British director Anthony Minghella has died aged 54

The acclaimed British director and ex-chairman of the BFI Anthony Minghella has died aged 54 from as-yet-undetermined causes. His latest work was a TV adaptation of the Alexander McCall Smith novel ‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’ which was due to air this Easter and which he co-wrote with Richard Curtis.

Mingella won an Oscar for his 1996 film ‘The English Patient’ and has since had hits with ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, ‘Cold Mountain’ and ‘Breaking and Entering’.
