Anthony Minghella: 1954-2008
British director Anthony Minghella has died aged 54
The acclaimed British director and ex-chairman of the BFI Anthony Minghella has died aged 54 from as-yet-undetermined causes. His latest work was a TV adaptation of the Alexander McCall Smith novel ‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’ which was due to air this Easter and which he co-wrote with Richard Curtis.Mingella won an Oscar for his 1996 film ‘The English Patient’ and has since had hits with ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, ‘Cold Mountain’ and ‘Breaking and Entering’.
