Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: trailer
Time Out dissects the trailer for 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' which is available to view online
The new trailer for one of this summer’s most anticipated blockbusters, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, is online. The film was delayed from a release last Christmas, allegedly to move its release date closer to that of the forthcoming two-parter ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’.
Director David Yates looks set to bring the same sense of reality and grim intensity to this instalment as his previous entry in the series, ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’. Indeed, the new film may prove even more challenging, with scenes of dark magical disturbance spreading out to touch the world of the Muggles. In fact, the trailer goes out of its way to make the film look as depressing as possible, with its muttered warnings of impending disaster and horror on the horizon.
Yates’s work on ‘Half-Blood Prince’ has already caused an outcry among the Potterite community online, with fans of the book who were granted access to sneak previews complaining about its fast-and-loose approach to the source material. But considering JK Rowling’s novel was, at the time of publication, the longest children's book ever written – and could, in our opinion, have withstood a fair amount of trimming – our optimism isn't dampened.
Let us know what you think of the new trailer in the comments box below.
‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ is released on July 17.
