Martin Scorsese's 'Shutter Island': trailer preview
Time Out offer their thoughts on the first trailer for Martin Scorsese's forthcoming 'Shutter Island'
The trailer for the new Martin Scorsese movie ‘Shutter Island’ launched online today. Adapted from the book by Boston-based crime writer Dennis Lehane (the novelist behind ‘Mystic River’ and ‘Gone Baby Gone’), the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as a pair of US Marshals dispatched to the titular island when an inmate from a mental institution goes mysteriously missing.
The trailer is undoubtedly gripping: moving away from the sparse, clinical veneer of ‘The Departed’, Scorsese appears to be approaching this one in full-blooded operatic fashion, with richly saturated colours, murky gothic interiors and lots of shouting. There seems to be an awful lot given away here – including, perhaps, the central twist – but we’re confident Scorsese will keep a little something up his sleeve for opening night.
