What's on at the cinema plus reviews of the latest movie and DVD releases

Time Out's 101 Films of the Decade with reactions from Peter Jackson, David Fincher, Gus Van Sant, Guillermo del Toro, George A Romero and more…

So here it is… Ten years, thousands of movies and millions of dollars in international box office, and it all boils down to this: Time Out’s most sensational, celebrational, inspirational selection of the 101 Greatest Films of the Noughties.

Take your seats, please...
...for our definitive rundown of the decade's greatest movie masterpieces. How did we create such a list? The process was simple: our crack film team – plus a wider panel culled from our unimpeachable pool of occasional contributors and trusted colleagues – each handed in a personal top ten. The results were then collated, processed, reprocessed, fed into our one-man mathmaking machine and presto! We had a list.

It’s going to be controversial. Every reader (and indeed every writer) will find a personal favourite or two missing, while that awful piece of claptrap you almost walked out of is bound to be nestling somewhere near the top. But we think you’ll find it more informed, more all-encompassing and more impassioned than any other list out there… and if not, there’s a comment box below for your venting pleasure.

Key to contributors
Dave Calhoun (DC), Geoff Andrew (GA), Tom Huddleston (TH), David Jenkins (DJ), Derek Adams (DA), Trevor Johnston (TJ), Wally Hammond (WH), Adam Lee Davies (ALD), Nina Caplan (NC), Ben Walters (BW), Nigel Floyd (NF), Anil Sinanan (AS), Cath Clarke (CC), Sarah Cohen (SC), Paul Fairclough (PF), Pete Watts (PW), Ossian Ward (OW), Lyndsey Winship (LW), Mark Frith (MF), Tim Arthur (TA), Paul Burston (PB), Gabriel Tate (GT), Caroline McGinn (CM)

terrence mallick is a fantastic filmmaker, and i'm glad someone recognizes this (you lads included three of his movies on your listings recently, so i'm guessing you're also fans of the man). so, i would love to know what movie of his the time out staff think is the best. (while at it, i would also like to know which kubrick flick you guys like most as well (if its no bother)) Posted on May 22 2010 17:01

For me... Memento... Just flipped the game on it's head and revitalised the "indie" film scene and although the "broken timeline" narrative seems passe now - it's all down to this film. Posted on Dec 02 2009 09:37
