The 100 most underrated films of the '90s

The 'Online Film Critics' have compiled an excellent list of films you might have missed during the 1990s.

Mar 23 2006

As I was browsing the net this morning, I stumbled across this excellent list at The Online Film Critics Society in which they count down the 100 most overlooked films of the '90s.

Now these lists can often be a bit slapdash, with fan-boy favourites taking the place of more deserving fare, but I was very impressed with this countdown.

As well as including obvious suggestions like 'The Ice Storm', 'Dead Man' and 'Glengarry Glen Ross', not to mention the near perfect 'Miller's Crossing' at number one, there are some genuine unheralded gems.

From 'A Midnight Clear' to 'Lone Star' to 'Quick Change' to 'Bottle Rocket', these are films that could easily have been missed first time around, but are well worth a second look.

So make sure you check the 100 out here, and if you've got any suggestions of your own, feel free to add them to the comments below.

As for me, I would have included 'Pleasantville', 'Crumb' and 'Funny Games' and could have done without the Coen Brothers only misstep of the decade, 'The Hudsucker Proxy'.

'Swinger's should be on the list - easily the funniest film of the decade. Never received the critical or commercial success it deserved. Posted on Mar 24 2006 17:20

Philip Ridley's wonderful, unsettling and very wonderful; "The Reflecting Skin" should have been included. He has a singular vision and here took it to the expanses of the American mid West for a fantastical coming of age story Posted on Mar 24 2006 16:56

What about 'Dogfight' - a criminally underrated 90s classic.? Posted on Mar 24 2006 10:37
